The New York Giants: Broncos Mk.II?

With their dominant defensive performance in Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos laid down a reliable template for success in the modern NFL.

Future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning had arguably the worst season ever for a Super Bowl winning quarterback in 2015, throwing 17 interceptions and only nine touchdowns. In fact, his play was so poor that it somehow convinced the Houston Texans that Brock Osweiler was worth big bucks in comparison.

The Broncos succeeded thanks to a defense full of superstars such as Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware, and their offense did them very few favours, relying on the odd moment of brilliance from Emmanuel Sanders or Demaryius Thomas to win games. Ring any bells?

Hey, NFL? How about some trades?

The NFL season is a damn short one and, while we may bemoan the enormous offseason, 16 regular season games means every single one usually matters.

Teams cannot afford to have bad days at the office, yet even some of the most exciting franchises in the league continue with glaring vulnerabilities. The Seattle Seahawks have the lowest paid offensive line in the league (and they are not great value), but compensate for it in other areas to remain as perennial challengers.

The Oakland Raiders are enjoying their greatest season in recent memory. Sitting atop the ultra-competitive AFC West with a 9-2 record, the Silver and Black have arguably the best young roster in the league and are proving to be one of the NFL’s most entertaining teams.

Thank You David Johnson

The NFL is sadly predictable when it comes to critical acclaim. Far too often, players are recognised because of their reputation or persona rather than just their on-field performances.
Marquee names such as JJ Watt and Odell Beckham Jr obviously deserve praise. After all, they’re great players. The issue is that their marketability often helps them become the media’s favourite pupils in a class where several others deserve more attention and, this season, David Johnson is top of that class.
